Florida Panthers Running Girls Learn To Play Program

Florida Panthers defenseman Mike Matheson and U.S. Women’s National Hockey Team defenseman Emily Pfalzer skated around the ice picking up fledgling hockey players as they picked up tips as part of the Girls Learn to Play program.

The pair were guest instructors during the first session of Girls Learn to Play at the Florida Panthers IceDen in Coral Springs and Palm Beach Skate Zone in Lake Worth, respectively.

Boynton Beach’s Jim Cappello brought his 9-year-old daughter Zaleigh to the Palm Beach Skate Zone and came away impressed.

“This is a great program, and all the girls involved are having so much fun,” he said. “The coaches are amazing and really get the kids excited about everything they are teaching. My daughter was a beginner skater and they took the time to work and get her going on her own.”

In conjunction with the NHL, NHLPA and USA Hockey, Florida Panthers Girls Learn to Play is for girls ages 5 to 9 who have never participated in an organized ice hockey program.
